Ron Goodman, Executive Director
Ron Goodman became the part-time Executive Director of Beyond the Scoreboard, Inc. in February of 2011. He has served on the Board of Directors of this organization since 2006. From 2002 to 2009 he served as the Junior Varsity football coach and then as the Varsity Defensive Coordinator for the Harbor Springs Rams. Earlier, while living in Kansas, he coached youth baseball for 12 years. He was an active basketball and football official in Kansas for 25 years. Ron has always loved sports, and has participated actively throughout whole life. He was drawn to participation in Beyond the Scoreboard because of the major role coaches played in his personal development as a high school athlete and the value for society that he sees in character-based sports programs.
Ron’s full-time career has been church ministry. He came to Northern Michigan as the Pastor of Discipleship for Stutsmanville Chapel, where he served for 9 ½ years. In June of 2011, he resigned to become the new Director of Partnerships for Orphan Helpers, Inc. This organization based in Newport News, VA., works with children in government-owned institutions in Central America. Previously, Ron served several congregations and a campus ministry in Kansas. Ron has a BA in ministry from Ozark Christian College, Joplin, MO, and a Master of Arts in Religious Studies from the University of Kansas.
Ron and his wife Barb have been married since 1970. Barb has been a counselor in private practice for over 25 years and currently shares an office in the Burn’s building in Petoskey. They have two married sons and three grandchildren.
